Range Repair in Houston

A La Cornue range combines gas burners, a vaulted oven and often a grill or French top in one body. Most are mechanical, so we trace trouble by flame, pressure and temperature rather than by a code.

01What goes wrong

Common range problems we fix

In the order we see them across Houston homes.

01

Burner sparks and never catches

02

Flame looks yellow, tall or ragged

03

Burner lights, then goes out

04

Oven runs hot or cool versus dial

05

Knobs feel stiff or loose

06

Gas smell near the range

A La Cornue range is built around a central body with several burners, a vaulted oven and, on many lines, a grill, griddle or French top. Most of these ranges are mechanical. The range has no display and no code list, so the useful information is what the range does: how it lights, how the flame looks and how the oven holds heat.

In Houston homes, humidity and kitchen grease collect around burner ports and ignition electrodes, and in coastal counties salt air can reach brass and fittings. Storm-season power dips matter less on a mechanical range, but they can upset spark ignition and electronic touches on models that have them.

We start with the gas supply, then test ignition, flame-safety devices and burner flame, and finally read the oven against the thermostat. We explain what each result does and does not tell us before parts are discussed.

05Range questions
Why does my range show no error code?

Most La Cornue ranges are mechanical and have no display or code system. We diagnose by watching the flame, measuring gas pressure, testing the igniter and flame-safety device, and checking oven temperature against the thermostat.

Does it matter if I use propane?

Yes. Burners and regulators are set for one fuel. A range running on the wrong orifices or pressure burns poorly and can be unsafe, so we confirm the fuel before any adjustment.

Is a yellow flame always a bad burner?

No. A yellow or lifting flame can come from supply pressure, blocked ports, the wrong orifice or poor air mix. The flame points us to the test; it does not name the part on its own.
