La Cornue Château 150 Gas Range and Châtelet Repair

La Cornue range

Most common issues on this model

  1. Each oven cavity against its own thermostat setting
  2. Burners, French top and power burner lighting with a good flame
  3. Châtelet heating drawer at a low-temperature setting
  4. Lava-rock grill staying lit, and even heat across the teppanyaki

Two different range bodies share the 150 cm width. The Château 150 has two vaulted ovens, with the left oven built for gas or electric and the right one electric only, and two storage drawers beneath. The Châtelet 150 trades that for one vault oven, gas or electric, over the largest heating drawer La Cornue makes, a useful space for proofing dough or holding food at low temperature. Both are topped by a gas hob with the large French top.

As with the rest of the family, the controls are knobs and nothing is displayed, so we test instead. Flame and ignition are checked at each burner, gas pressure is measured, and a burner that will not stay lit gets a look at the flame-safety device. Ovens are read with a thermometer against the dial. On a Châtelet, the heating drawer is tested at a low setting, where accuracy counts most.

The label tells the two bodies apart, so we read it before ordering parts. You approve a written price before any work.

How can I tell a Château 150 from a Châtelet 150?

Count the cavities. The Château has two vaulted ovens and two storage drawers. The Châtelet has one vault oven and a large heating drawer. The label confirms the exact model.

My heating drawer does not stay warm. What do we check?

On a Châtelet we measure the drawer's real temperature at a low setting, then test its element and thermostat. Low-temperature cooking depends on a heat that is both steady and accurate.

The lava-rock grill keeps going out. Is it the gas?

Not necessarily. We check gas to that position, then the ignition and flame-safety device and the burner ports, which are common reasons a grill will not stay lit.
