What P means

A P at one of the zones of a La Cornue induction hob is a function indicator rather than an error. It is the Power Boost sign, showing that the zone is delivering power above level 9, which is mostly used to get a big pot of water boiling fast. Seeing P means the hob is doing what it was set to do. Boost is temporary, so it does not run indefinitely.

Common causes of P

  • Boost selected on purpose, usually for a fast boil
  • Knob turned to the Boost position by mistake
  • A zone that never leaves Boost, which would point to the control
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check which zone shows P and whether Boost was what you wanted. 2. Leave it alone: Boost runs for a maximum of 10 minutes, after which the hob reduces the zone to level 9. 3. To end it sooner, move the knob back to a lower power level. 4. If P stays on well beyond 10 minutes, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A normal P needs no service.
  • If Boost never steps down after its 10 minutes, we test the control behind it.
  • A written price comes before any work.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

PP questions
Is P a problem with the hob?

No. P shows that Power Boost is running on that zone, giving extra power above level 9. It is a function indicator, and the hob steps it down by itself.

How long does Boost last?

A maximum of 10 minutes. After that the hob automatically reduces the zone to level 9. You can also end it early by moving the knob back to a lower power level.

P stays on much longer than 10 minutes. What now?

Boost should not stay on past 10 minutes. If it does, turn the knob down, stop using that zone, and call us, because the control that steps the power down needs testing.
