Remodeling Around a La Cornue Range: Protect It and Plan Access

A kitchen remodel is hard on a heavy range. These steps protect the finish and keep gas, power, and service access right.

A La Cornue range is heavy, finished in enamel, and connected to gas and often power. Remodeling around it without a plan is a common reason for damage and later service calls.

Before the work starts

  • Have the gas shut off and the line capped by a gas fitter.
  • Disconnect and move the range as a unit with enough people.
  • Cover and pad the range if it stays in place, including the doors and trim.
  • Seal nearby areas against dust, which can get into burners and vents.
  • Ask the crew not to lean tools or ladders on the range.

Plan for service access

Leave enough room beside and in front of the range to pull it out, and keep the flexible gas line and shutoff reachable. Tight tile or cabinets cut too close can trap the range and turn a short repair into a demolition.

When the range returns

Have the installer check level, gas pressure, fuel type, and leaks. Test every burner and the oven before the new counters are sealed, while adjustments are still easy to make.

Protecting the finish during construction

Trades working nearby sand, cut, and drop tools, and dust settles into burners and the hood. Plywood over the cooktop, tape over the knobs, and plastic over the hood opening cost little. Remove covers gradually, check for scratches, and clean the burners before the first cook.

Gas fitters and electricians usually handle the lines, while the cabinet maker handles the surround. Agreeing on who touches what avoids damage and finger-pointing later.

If you want a pre-remodel check or a post-install inspection, we can do either. Visit our range repair page or see the Houston areas we serve.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
