After a Flood: What to Do With a La Cornue Range

Water that reached a range is a gas and electrical hazard. Here is what to leave off, what to document, and what a technician checks.

If floodwater touched your La Cornue range, even only the lower part, do not try to use it. Water, silt, and contamination can sit in places you cannot see.

First steps

  • Shut off the gas at the valve if you can do so safely.
  • Turn off electrical power at the breaker, from a dry location only.
  • Do not light burners, press ignition, or test the oven.
  • Photograph the water line and the range for your records.

Why it cannot be judged by eye

Gas valves, regulators, and orifices can be fouled by silt and corrosion. Wiring, spark modules, thermostats, and the electronics on induction models can fail after moisture exposure, sometimes days later. A range that dries out may seem fine but still be unsafe.

What a technician checks

We inspect the valves and burner assemblies, test for gas leaks, check the wiring and electrical parts, and test the oven against a thermometer. Some parts can be cleaned or replaced, and some ranges are not worth saving. We tell you which in writing before work begins.

Insurance and documentation

Keep photos of the range before and after any water event, along with the model and serial number from the data plate. Your insurer will ask what was affected, and a written inspection with prices helps support the claim. Do not discard the range until the insurer has seen it or approved disposal.

Flood water often carries contamination, so wear gloves and avoid contact with the range interior. Do not run a wet range to dry it out, since that can spread heat damage and sparks inside.

Repairs come with a written price before work starts and a 30-day workmanship warranty. Start from our range repair page or the service area list.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
