La Cornue cooktops cover two different families. Gas cooktops use sealed or open burners with spark ignition, and are tested by looking at the flame, the electrode and the supply. Induction hobs have a few letter symbols on the display, but no long code list, so we use the symbol as a clue together with what the zone does with a pan on it.
In Houston, humidity and spills near the electrodes are the usual reasons for a burner that clicks without lighting, and heat and salt air can dull burner caps in coastal homes. Induction hobs are sensitive to pan material and to heat in the cabinet below.
We check the cap seating, the electrode, the gas pressure or the power feed depending on type, and tell you what each test did and did not show.

My induction hob shows a letter. What does it mean?
La Cornue induction hobs show a few symbols such as U, H, E, F, L or P. The meaning depends on the model, so we read the symbol alongside what the hob is doing before testing anything.
One burner clicks and never lights. Why?
The spark may be weak, the electrode dirty or wet, or the burner cap misseated. We clean and test first, then check the supply, since the click alone does not name the cause.
Can a gas cooktop run on propane?
Only with the right orifices and regulator. We check the fuel type first because a burner set for the wrong gas will burn poorly.
