What E means
On La Cornue ranges and cooktops with an induction hob, the Château, CornuFé and Grand Palais families included, the symbol E is an error indication. It means the hob's electronic control system has detected a defect in itself. Of the two error symbols this hob can show, E is the milder one. The hob may stop responding to its knobs, and the symbol stays on until the condition is dealt with.
Common causes of E
- A one-time glitch in the hob's control electronics that clears when power is removed and restored
- A control board that detects a defect each time it starts up
- A knob or switch input the control cannot read correctly
1. Switch the hob off at every knob. 2. Disconnect the appliance from its power supply, then connect it again. 3. Turn a zone on and see whether E comes back. 4. If E returns, stop using the hob and call us. Do not open the appliance or try to repair it yourself.
- After the power cycle, the question is whether the control fails again, which no owner-side step can answer.
- The control electronics sit under the glass inside a high-voltage appliance, so testing them is work for a qualified technician.
- We read the symbol, test the supply to the hob and the control, and quote in writing before any repair.
E appeared once and went away after I reset the power. Should I worry?
A single E that clears after disconnecting and reconnecting power may have been a one-time event. If it returns, the control electronics are reporting a defect again, and we should test them before you rely on the hob.
Is E more serious than F on this hob?
E is the milder error symbol. It allows one owner step, a power cycle, before a technician is needed. F allows no owner step, so a repeated E still deserves a visit, but F is the one that needs us right away.
Can I cook on the other zones while E is showing?
We would not rely on it. E points to the control system as a whole, not to one zone, so the safest choice is to stop using the hob until it has been tested.
Still seeing E?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
