What H means
H on a La Cornue induction hob is a warning, not an error: it is the residual heat indicator. A zone that you have already switched off can stay hot after cooking, because the glass keeps the warmth of the pan that was on it, and H marks that zone. The symbol stays lit until the glass drops to the maker's 60°C (140°F) threshold, then it disappears by itself.
Common causes of H
- Heat that the pan left in the glass after the zone was switched off
- A zone that was used recently, so H is expected
- A zone that does not seem to cool down, which would call for a check
1. Leave the zone alone until H goes out on its own. 2. Do not touch the cooking zone while H is showing; there is a risk of burns. 3. Keep heat-sensitive items off the ceramic glass, since they could burn or ignite. 4. If H is still showing hours after cooking, call us.
- H is working as designed, so a normal H needs no service at all.
- If H never clears or appears on a zone that has not been used, we test the sensing behind it.
- A written price comes before any work.
Is H a failure of the hob?
No. H is a residual heat warning that the glass over the zone is still hot. It switches itself off once the zone has cooled to 60°C (140°F), so there is nothing to repair.
Can I put a plastic cutting board on the hob while H shows?
No. The glass is still hot enough to burn skin and to damage or ignite heat-sensitive items. Wait for H to go out before touching the zone or placing anything on it.
H stays on for a very long time after cooking. Why?
It could be a very large pan or long cooking time that left a lot of heat. If H stays on for hours, or shows on a zone that was not used, we test the sensing for that zone.
Still unsure about H?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
