What F means
On La Cornue ranges and cooktops with an induction hob, the symbol F is an error indication for an internal technical failure of the hob. Unlike E, it comes with no owner-side reset: the maker states that the owner cannot correct it. The hob will usually refuse to heat while F is showing, and it stays on until a qualified person has inspected the hob. It is separate from the normal status symbols, such as the pan detector or residual heat.
Common causes of F
- An internal failure in the hob's power or control electronics
- A supply or connection problem that the hob reports as an internal failure
- A condition that can only be confirmed by testing the hob with a qualified technician
1. Switch the hob off at every knob. 2. Do not try to reset, open or repair the hob. 3. Keep cookware and anything heat-sensitive off the glass until it has been inspected. 4. Call us and tell us that F is showing and which zones, if any, still respond.
- No owner step is given for F, so there is nothing left to try before testing.
- The inside of an induction hob carries high voltage, so inspection is for a qualified technician only.
- We identify which part is behind the F, give you a written price, and cover the work with our 30-day workmanship warranty.
Why is there no reset step for F?
Because F means an internal technical failure that the owner cannot correct. Repeated power cycling does not fix it, and opening the hob yourself is unsafe, so the right step is to stop and call.
How is F different from E?
E is the milder symbol and allows one step, disconnecting and reconnecting power. F allows none and goes straight to a technician. Both are real error symbols, unlike the status signs for pan detection or residual heat.
Is the hob dangerous with F showing?
Treat it as unsafe to use until tested. We would not run the hob, since the failure is internal and we cannot tell from outside what is affected.
Still seeing F?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
